Faq on the "Francesconi Protocol" video course
The Francesconi Protocol is a four-week journey. Once purchased you can review the lessons as many times as you want from each device (PC, tablet, smartphone).
It’s always better to respect the “principle of non-pain”. In the algic phase it is advisable to perform only the “green” exercises of the first week, in particular number 1 and number 3.
There’s no such thing as a rule. I advise people to find a quiet moment to perform the exercises, perhaps with relaxing music in the background (doing them with the “stopwatch” transmits only stress).
The moderate physical activity practiced at aerobic level (walking, running, swimming) is excellent because it increases oxygenation of the musculoskeletal structures of the spine, thus reducing inflammation.
Postural gymnastics carried out in level of prevention is always an investment in one’s own health. It improves joint mobility, muscle stretchability and helps to relax.
After various tests, I was able to verify that people who perform the exercises correctly at home at least twice a week as a “pleasant weekly appointment” tend to stabilize and improve their condition.
It is possible to perform the exercises without warm-up, however 10/15 min warm-up on a treadmill exercise bike improves muscle stretchability.
In these cases it is advisable to perform the first 4 “green” exercises of the protocol upon awakening.
Faq Adults
Here are the most frequently asked questions about back pain-related illnesses!
Postural – antalgic gymnastics is important for the prevention and treatment of annoying pains that can affect the various areas of the musculoskeletal system (upper limbs, lower limbs, spine) of adult subjects for various causes: incorrect or protracted positions during the performance of their work activities, sedentariness, muscle rigidity, sudden efforts involving the back and traumatic events of various kinds.
More and more frequent are the medical prescriptions of antalgic postural gymnastics, especially for the excellent results obtained in the treatment of low back pain. È una ginnastica che coinvolge tutto il corpo con l’obiettivo di ridurre o eliminare completamente i sintomi dolorosi. It involves stretching the muscles of the upper limbs, lower limbs and back, strengthening the back-lumbar and abdominal muscles and educates in the search for the correct posture.
These are painful syndromes often but not exclusively caused by disc changes in the lumbar spine. Lumbago occurs when the painful symptomatology is limited to the lumbar region. There is lumbosciatica and lumbocruralgia when the pain extends to the lower limb in the sciatic or crural nerve territory respectively.
Disc protrusion occurs when the intervertebral disc interposed between two vertebrae (which consists of an external part called a fibrous ring and an internal part called a pulpy nucleus) can decrease in height for various reasons. Once it has become superabundant (“like the effect of jam crushed between two rusks”) and reduced in height, it assumes a convexity along its entire circumference and forms a diffuse and regular protrusion (“a bulging disc”). The pain at the lumbar level is due to irritation or compression of the nerves that are distributed to the fibrous ring as well as to nearby structures (posterior longitudinal ligament, periosteum covering the vertebrae, capsulo ligamentous formations, etc.).
We speak of hernia (which has various levels of gravity) when a more pronounced protrusion is created in a part of nuclear material through complete fissuration of the fibrous ring. Hernia (depending on where it comes out) can irritate or compress the nerve roots of the sciatic or femoral nerve, causing pain, paresthesias and decreased reflexes of the affected lower limb.
The “crushing” of the intervertebral disc can have various causes:
Age – (in the ageing process the intervertebral disc undergoes progressive degeneration)
Traumatic events – (e.g. falls from a height)
Daily efforts of the spinal column – (e.g. heavy work, daily care of bedridden patients)
Incorrect posture – people who have not suffered trauma to the spinal column and do not perform heavy work often complain about lumbago patterns due to static and sedentary postures over long periods of time (e.g. representatives, truck drivers, people sitting for many hours in the office). Long lasting static postures can cause generalized musculo-fascial rigidity and over time can alter the balance of paravertebral structures.
Overweight – (not the main cause but can be a cause of aggravation)
After a thorough objective examination the doctor can deepen the degree of the pathology with instrumental examinations. The first investigation that is carried out is a lumbar x-ray that gives a first indication and can make one hypothesize disc suffering but often, it does not show slight protrusions, as only the vertebrae are seen and not the intervertebral discs; instead, the most detailed examinations that give the precise situation of the intervertebral disc are axial tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Between 80 and 90% of adults complain of “back pain” during their lifetime and 75% of them of working age. In view of the fact that they affect men in their most productive age, from 40 to 50 years, low back pain has high social and health costs due to medical expenses and lost working days.
Faq Kids
Here are the most frequently asked questions about corrective gymnastics and children's posture
The duration varies depending on the specialist doctor’s prescription and the severity of the case. In the case of paramorphisms (e.g. scoliotic or kyphotic attitudes) the treatment ranges from 3 to 6 months. In the case of dysmorphisms (e.g. scoliosis or structured kyphosis) the specialist usually prescribes corrective gymnastics cycles of 6/9 months to be performed every year until bone maturity is reached.
It’s scoliosis, dorsal hypercyphoresis, lumbar hyperlordosis…
Scoliosis is characterized by a deviation of the spine in the three planes of space. Scoliosis appears on an X-ray of the spinal column as a right or left lateral deviation which can be located at the lumbar, dorsolumbar or dorsal level, as the case may be; it can also be a single or double curve.
It’s an accentuation of the physiological lumbar curve on the sagittal plane…
It’s an accentuation of the physiological dorsal curve on the sagittal plane…
It is a very simple maneuver (the Adams test) that can also be done by the parent. The boy, bare-chested and barefoot, must perform a forward flexion of the torso and the parent, positioning himself behind him, observes if the back is symmetrical. If the parent notices an elevation of one side of the back there is the possibility that it is a structured scoliosis. In this case It is advisable that the boy undergo a medical examination (physiatrist or orthopaedist).
A school bag doesn’t give you scoliosis!
However, carrying excessive loads is not good for the spine of young people in developmental age, especially in the presence of pathological curves.
